The Problem Is Not Religion It Is Ignorance.
Author: Gouya Roshan (Güya Aydın )
The problem is not in religion, but in ignorance In a world where wars are waged in the name of religion, blood is shed in the name of God, and people are displaced in the name of prophets, we must ask ourselves:
Is the problem with religion itself? Or with the ignorant and misguided interpretations of it?
Many, when faced with oppression from a religious group or state, turn their anger toward religion and blame it.
But as those with true, enlightened faith understand: The problem is not religion; it is ignorance.
True faith is not confined to a single religion.
Personally, I never equate a "Muslim" with a "believer."
A true believer transcends religious labels and exists in the heart of anyone who believes in truth, justice, honesty, and compassion.
A believer may be a Muslim, a Christian, a Jew, a Zoroastrian, or an unknown person from a remote tribe but if their heart is pure, their actions good, and their intentions sincere, they are dear to God.
The Qur'an also says:
"Indeed, those who believed and those who were Jews and the Christians and the Sabians whoever believes in God and the Last Day and does righteous deeds will have their reward with their Lord..."
(Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 62)
All divine books express a single truth.
If one truly believes in God Almighty, they will find His word in the Torah, the Gospel, the Psalms, and the Qur'an.
Each of these books, in its own time and language, delivered one common message to humanity:
The message of faith, justice, kindness, forgiveness, and the rejection of oppression.
Prophets did not come to build walls between us they came to show us the path.
But instead of seeing the path, we have clung to the walls.
As history teaches us,
Religion has often been used as a tool of power in the hands of the ignorant.
When religion ceases to be a guiding star and becomes a weapon for control, dominance, and fanaticism, catastrophe follows.
The Crusaders fought in the name of Christ even though he was the messenger of love.
Extremists beheaded in the name of Islam even though its prophet was the messenger of mercy.
And even today, some governments still massacre defenseless people in the name of defending their religion or nation.
So again we must ask:
Is the problem with religion?
Or with the ignorance, prejudice, and lies that are sold in its name?
A true believer sides with the oppressed not with the oppressor.
An aware believer does not remain silent in the face of injustice, whether it comes from someone of their own faith or from an outsider.
They don’t ask what religion the victim belongs to, what language they speak, or what country they come from.
They only ask: Has their right been violated?
If religion cannot lead us to this level of human awareness, it is nothing more than a collection of rituals and words not a living faith.
Therefore, we conclude:
Religion, in its essence, is light.
The Torah, the Gospel, the Psalms, and the Qur’an are all reflections of divine speech.
But when this light falls into blind eyes or hardened hearts, it no longer illuminates it burns.
The problem is not religion the problem is ignorance.
Ignorance that preserves religion but forgets conscience;
That recites verses but does not beat for justice;
That shouts the name of God, but serves the devil.
Faith is not just in words it is in standing with the oppressed, in speaking the truth, and in living with justice.
And a true believer, in any religion, is a light one that never aligns with oppression.
