Recognition or Washing Bloody Hands?
Recognition or Washing Bloody Hands?..
Author: Gouya Roshan (Güya Aydın )
For more than seventy years, Palestinians have been exposed not only to occupation and genocide but also to the organized indifference of the world. Western countries, from Europe to Canada and the United States, instead of providing financial or personnel support, have remained silent or indirectly participated in these crimes, whether through arms sales or diplomatic support for Israel. In other words, throughout all these years, they have neither provided financial nor personnel support to Palestine. They have merely been spectators.
But today, because of political games and personal rivalries with Donald Trump, suddenly some countries declare: “We recognize Palestine.” My question is: Where were you during all the previous massacres and bloodshed? What has changed now? What good are you going to do for the Palestinians? Or to put it more clearly: What is your real aim in doing this?
Because this is more of a media maneuver than a serious action. The nature of occupation and genocide has not changed. The blockades continue, homes are being demolished, and children are still living in fear and hunger. This means that these sudden decisions and declarations are certainly not made out of empathy for the people of Gaza or humanitarian concerns; rather, they are issues of power games and political bargaining. It is like threatening a child to gain concessions: recognizing Palestine on paper, without any real change on the ground, is more like placing an artificial flower on a grave that is still bleeding fresh blood!
When a country, after decades of silence and even complicity with the criminal, suddenly declares “recognition of Palestine,” one should look for hidden interests rather than human feelings. Because in this game, Palestine and its people are merely tools of pressure and bargaining, not the real goal. Perhaps also because the genocide of the Palestinians is no longer hidden as it once was; images and videos are constantly being shared on social media, and people in Europe, Canada, and even the United States are protesting in the streets for Gaza. Western rulers see that if they continue to remain silent, their image and credibility in the eyes of their own people are collapsing. To save face and contain the wave of anger at home, they try to stand alongside those seeking justice with symbolic gestures such as “recognition of Palestine” or issuing statements, while for years they have been providing financial and military support to the occupiers.
This is more like washing their bloody hands in front of the cameras, not genuine compensation…
For example: hundreds of trucks and trailers full of food and medicine are currently waiting behind closed gates to reach the people of Gaza. But these aids are not delivered; instead, they are dropped to the ground through airstrikes. This is not only ineffective and insufficient, but also humiliating. With this in mind, it is easy to say that this is a publicity show, not a rescue operation. They could deliver all the aid within a few hours if they wanted to, but they don’t want to do it. Therefore, the goal is not to resolve the crisis, but to shape the image of the crisis for the media and public opinion.
My final word: This policy and this misleading narrative are a stain of shame that will never be erased from the face of these governments. Because one day, the future generations of this world will curse their past generations
