How Did the Islamic World Abandon Its Nations

How Did the Islamic World Abandon Its Nations?

Author: Gouya Roshan (Güya Aydın)

I never complain about foreigners, because my pain comes from seeing daggers drawn from the sleeves of the familiar. In a world that carries the name of Islam, there are people who, under the banner of Islam, are homeless, hungry, displaced, and massacred. Before I complain about the West, before I point the finger at Zionism and imperialism, I speak of the silence, betrayal, and inaction of the Islamic world. Whatever was done to me, it was done by the familiar... and this bitter confession is the beginning of my story.

In the midst of this, there are painful and revealing examples that clearly show the true face of the Islamic world. Palestine, Rohingya, Yemen, and Afghanistan are four prominent examples of peoples who have fallen victim to empty slogans, conscienceless politics, and blatant betrayal. They are mirrors that reflect not the foreign enemies, but the indifference of their Muslim brothers.

One of the most prominent examples that reveals the true face of the Islamic world is Palestine. Many Islamic countries have for years supported groups like Hamas financially and militarily, but in practice, this support has brought nothing but bombings, displacement, massacres, and crushing sanctions for the Palestinian people. While the people of Gaza are under attack, the very countries that once chanted slogans of support now watch in silence. Even countries like Egypt, which share a border with Gaza, have not only failed to help the Palestinians but have effectively abandoned them by closing the Rafah crossing and building walls, aiding the deadly siege of Zionist Israel. This blatant contradiction between "claims" and "actions" has only intensified the suffering of oppressed nations and called into question the moral legitimacy of Muslim countries.

Yemen: The people of Yemen have also lived for years under the rubble of an imposed war that was ignited with the green light and financial and military support of some Islamic countries. Poverty, hunger, disease, and insecurity are the defining features of today's Yemen. Hundreds of thousands of Yemeni children have died of hunger, and the Islamic world has remained silent in the face of this human catastrophe.

The Silent Genocide of the Rohingya:
The Rohingya tragedy, in a world full of manufactured crises and opportunistic politics, is one of the darkest stains in modern history. A people without land, without a state, and without shelter — Muslims who have for decades been subjected to torture, rape, massacre, and ethnic cleansing in Myanmar. Before the eyes of the world, hundreds of thousands were driven from their homes and relocated to refugee camps in Bangladesh and elsewhere, while the Islamic world looked on.

Afghanistan: After decades of war and occupation, Afghanistan is also grappling with a regressive government and widespread poverty. Muslim countries that could have offered refuge to Afghan refugees have often rejected, humiliated, or deported them.

My question is this: What have Muslim countries done during this time? Have they heard their cries? Have they opened their doors to these oppressed Muslims? Have they sanctioned the oppressors and severed ties with them? Have they closed their embassies? Beyond a few political statements, souvenir photos, and limited aid, what has the Islamic world done? They have simply remained silent. Wealthy Arab countries that spend billions on weapons and skyscrapers have not even agreed to host these people in their own lands.

So, if the Islamic world itself is indifferent to the suffering of Muslims, how can we expect compassion and help from the West? How can we expect America and Israel to respect human rights when we ourselves drive daggers into the chests of our brothers?
